When asked to develop a sustained investigation, my mind went immediately to my experiences as a woman in the 21st century. I chose to highlight color and shape, which helped convey the tones and messages of each piece. Studying topics such as public figures, feminist issues and everyday fears, my work dives into what a female’s life in our society looks like today.

I started with a narrowed focus on feminist issues that women fight for. As my portfolio developed, I redirected my focus on the female experience as a whole. Before I started on new pieces, I wanted to experiment with different color palettes and different forms of expression. As I transitioned to a broader topic, I discovered more significance in detailing how society sees women, illustrating the struggles of body image, going out alone or abusive relationships. After evaluating what I had in my portfolio, I felt I needed to show female empowerment and identify that women have an unique ability to change the world. The societal pressures put on women do not define what we can do but give us all a version of related experiences that bond us. It’s important that we have these conversations, there’s so much more to change.
